Is Your Robot Mower FCC-Approved? Covered List Tracker (Updated Monthly)

Short answer: yes, you can still buy it, and it will still work

On July 28, 2026 the FCC added foreign-made “advanced robotic devices” to its Covered List. That blocks new foreign-made models from getting the FCC authorization they need to be sold in the US. It does not pull already-authorized mowers off shelves, it does not touch the mower in your garage, and it does not stop firmware updates, which the FCC has waived through at least January 1, 2029. The open question is what ships in 2027 and beyond. Below: what the rule says, what it means for a buyer, and a model-by-model status table from our database. Last checked: October 17, 2026.

What the FCC did on July 28, 2026

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau added two categories to the Covered List that day: foreign-produced power inverters and foreign-produced “advanced robotic devices.” The public notice is DA 26-786, and the plain-English version is the FCC’s own fact sheet. The Covered List is the FCC’s register of equipment judged to “pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States.” Anything on it cannot receive a new FCC equipment authorization, and without that authorization a radio-equipped product cannot legally be imported, marketed, or sold here.

The fact sheet describes advanced robotic devices as “mobile robots, such as humanoids and quadrupeds.” That wording made a lot of mower owners assume they were not included. They are. The underlying definition, laid out in the FCC’s FAQ and summarized by law firm Morgan Lewis, is element-by-element: a mechanical device that moves on the ground, operates at a distance from a person or on its own sensors, weighs more than 4.4 lb with its dock, carries sensors, has a network connection of at least 200 kbps (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular or satellite all count), and runs navigation or perception software locally or in the cloud. A wire-free robot mower with an app checks every box. Morgan Lewis wrote that the definition “may encompass” robot vacuums and robot lawn mowers, and on October 6, 2026 PCMag reported that the FCC confirmed to it that the action covers both robot vacuums and robot lawn mowers.

Two points people get wrong:

  • It is about where the robot is built, not who owns the brand. “Foreign-produced” means the device is not a domestic end product under the federal acquisition rules (48 CFR 25.101(a)): made in the US with domestic components making up more than 65 percent of component cost through 2028, rising to 75 percent in 2029. A Swedish brand’s mower built in Asia is foreign-produced. So is an American brand’s mower built in Asia. The FCC calls the rule country-neutral.
  • It applies to new models. The fact sheet says the restrictions “apply to new device models” and the update “does not prohibit the import, sale, or use of any existing models of advanced robotic device” the FCC previously authorized. It also says “this action does not affect any previously purchased devices.”

One correction to a claim you may have seen elsewhere, including in our own notes. The Husqvarna approval is often cited as “DA 26-1089.” That document, released October 9, 2026, is actually a notice about GE Grid Solutions power inverters. The Husqvarna row appears in its Appendix A, the republished Covered List, dated September 9, 2026. Husqvarna’s own press release, dated September 11, 2026, says the Bureau announced the approval on September 9. So the date is right. The document number is just the place it is currently printed.

What it means if you are about to buy

Can I still buy the mower I was looking at?

If the model already holds an FCC equipment authorization, yes. The FCC FAQ says the update “does not affect the continued importing, marketing, or selling of existing models” that have already been authorized. Retailers can keep selling them, brands can keep importing them. Every one of the 2024 and 2025 models in our database was being sold in the US before July 28, 2026, which means it had to have an authorization already. The models to be careful with are the ones announced for 2026 or 2027 that had not shipped by late July 2026. A brand can still announce a mower; it cannot sell it here without an authorization or a Conditional Approval.

Will it still work?

Yes. Nothing in the FCC’s documents disables or restricts a mower already in use, and the fact sheet is explicit that previously purchased devices are not affected. Your RTK antenna, your app, your cellular module, none of that changes.

Will it keep getting updates?

Through at least January 1, 2029, yes. Without the waiver, FCC rules (47 CFR 2.932(b) and 2.1043(b)) would have blocked even minor software changes to a covered device. DA 26-789 waives that for already-authorized robots so they can receive updates “that mitigate harm to US consumers,” which Morgan Lewis summarizes as security patches, bug fixes and operating-system compatibility updates. Two caveats. First, the waiver covers software and firmware, not hardware changes. Second, 2029 is a floor, not a promise; the notice says “at least,” and the FCC would have to act again to extend it. Brands with a long US history (Husqvarna, Worx, Greenworks) have the most reason to keep servicing software here, and a brand that stops selling in the US may have less. That is a business judgment, not a rule.

What about warranty and parts?

The FCC documents we read do not mention warranties. A warranty is a contract between you and the maker, and nothing in the Covered List action voids it. Replacement parts are murkier. The FCC FAQ lists the question “Are repairs of previously authorized … advanced robotics devices or replacement of their components affected?” but the answer we could read only pointed back to the Conditional Approval process, and RobotMowGuide notes the update waiver does not say it covers hardware changes. Blades, wheels and batteries are not radios. They are not at issue. A replacement main board or antenna module that contains a transmitter is the grey area. We have not found a clear FCC statement either way and will update this page when we do.

So what should I actually do?

  • If you want a mower this season, buy a model that has been on sale in the US since 2025 or earlier, from a brand that has been here for years. The table below flags those as “authorized before the list.”
  • If a 2026 model is listed below as “unknown,” that means we could not confirm its status, not that it is banned. Check the FCC ID on the label or in the app. Then look it up in the FCC’s equipment authorization search. Per the FCC FAQ, any device with a valid FCC ID or Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity is authorized.
  • Do not expect January 2027 trade-show announcements from Asia-built brands to ship in the US on their usual schedule. Treat them as “announced, US availability unconfirmed” until an FCC ID or Conditional Approval appears.
  • Wired boundary mowers are not exempt from the definition. A Worx Landroid or Husqvarna Automower with Wi-Fi or cellular still meets the 200 kbps test. They are safe to buy for the same reason the wire-free ones are: they were authorized before the list. See our robot mower buying guide for the wired versus wire-free trade-offs.

Conditional Approvals granted so far (robots only)

A Conditional Approval is a specific finding by DoW that a named device or platform does not pose an unacceptable risk. The FCC’s rules then require the Bureau to carve that equipment out of the Covered List. Approvals are tied to a US onshoring plan; DA 26-1089 notes the GE Grid inverter approval is conditioned on “continuing compliance with the onshoring plan outlined in its conditional approval application.”

As of our last check, no Navimow, Mammotion, Dreame, Worx, Ecovacs, Mova, eufy, Sunseeker, Greenworks, Roborock, Lymow or Anthbot entry appears in the approvals appendix. That is consistent with RobotMowGuide’s reading of the same document on October 13, 2026. Absence from this table does not mean a brand’s current mowers are banned; it means no new platform from that brand has been approved yet.

Status table: every mower in our database

Our mower database has 94 models. For this table we used one rule: a model is marked authorized before the list only if we confirmed it was on sale in the US in 2025 or earlier, which means it must have held an FCC authorization before July 28, 2026. Everything else is unknown: 2026 launches, models not sold in the US, and anything we could not verify. We did not look up individual FCC IDs for this pass, so “unknown” is a statement about our research, not about the mower. Last checked October 17, 2026.

Read the labels carefully. “Authorized before the list” is not the same as “approved by the FCC after the list.” The first means the model got its ordinary FCC authorization before July 28, 2026 and can keep being sold. The second would be a Conditional Approval, and as of this writing only Husqvarna’s four 2027 platforms have one. “Unknown” means we could not verify, not that the mower is banned.

Source: Tin Man Reviews mower database, fcc_covered_list_status column, built October 17, 2026 from manufacturer US store pages. Status method: “authorized before the list” = confirmed on sale in the US in 2025 or earlier. “Unknown” = 2026 launch, non-US model, or not verified. No row is marked as holding a Conditional Approval. Cross-checked against RobotMowGuide’s tracker (updated October 13, 2026) and the FCC Covered List appendix (October 9, 2026).

How to read the brand rows

  • Segway Navimow. The i105N and i110N (2024) and the X3 line (2025) were on sale before the list. The 2026 i2 AWD, i2 LiDAR, H2 and X4 lines are marked unknown. Navimow has not announced a Conditional Approval. Their current US lineup is the one most exposed to the “what ships next year” question, so if you want an X4 or H2, buying one that is physically in US stock is the lower-risk move.
  • Mammotion. LUBA 2 AWD X, LUBA mini AWD, YUKA and YUKA mini were US products in 2024 and 2025. LUBA 3, LUBA mini 2 and YUKA mini 2 are 2026 launches, marked unknown. Mammotion’s US store was selling LUBA 3 in October 2026, which implies an authorization exists, but we have not pulled the FCC ID.
  • Husqvarna. The US residential lineup in October 2026 is 410 iQ, 420 iQ, 440 iQ, 435 iQ AWD and 435X AWD. The 2025 models are marked authorized before the list, and the 435 iQ AWD, a 2026 release, is marked unknown. Separately, the 305v/310v/420v/440v IQ platforms have a Conditional Approval for 2027. The 305, 310 Mark II, 315X, 405X and NERA rows in our database are EU and Australian models; their US pages return 404.
  • Worx. Landroid M WR147 and L WR155 are long-standing US wired models, marked authorized. The Vision Cloud WR340 and WR346 were “coming soon” on worx.com in October 2026, so they are unknown.
  • Ecovacs, eufy, Sunseeker, Greenworks, Mova, Airseekers, Lymow, Anthbot. Each has at least one 2025 model marked authorized and at least one 2026 model marked unknown. Dreame and Roborock have only 2026 US models in our database, so every row is unknown.

If your yard decision depends on one of the unknown rows, our RTK vs LiDAR vs vision guide and lawn size guide will usually point you to an authorized 2025 equivalent with the same navigation type.

What we are watching

  • New Conditional Approvals. The FCC posts them on the Covered List page. Applications are due by January 1, 2028, and the FCC has not published a review timeline.
  • The 2029 update waiver. Any FCC notice extending, narrowing or ending DA 26-789.
  • CES 2027 and spring 2027 launches. Which of them list an FCC ID, and which skip the US without saying so.
  • Onshoring. Husqvarna’s approval was tied to a US manufacturing plan. Any brand that announces US assembly is signaling it intends to file.

We update this page monthly. If you spot a model we have wrong, the FCC ID on your mower’s label is the fastest way to settle it; send it along with the model name.

Update log

  • October 2026 (first version, checked October 17, 2026). Verified the July 28, 2026 Covered List addition, the DA 26-789 update waiver through at least January 1, 2029, the January 1, 2028 application deadline, and the Husqvarna 305v/310v/420v/440v IQ Conditional Approval dated September 9, 2026 as printed in the October 9, 2026 Covered List appendix. Corrected the document reference for the Husqvarna approval (DA 26-1089 is the October 9 notice that reprints it, not the original announcement). Built the 94-row status table from our mower database. No non-Husqvarna mower brand appears in the approvals appendix.
